"Quereshi had also sold stolen articles, including a laptop, to one Abid Ali, who was arrested in Haridwar in Uttarakhand, on charges of spying," said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of Police (south). With his arrest, the Delhi police claims to have solved 17 cases of thefts and burglaries in the city.

Five stolen laptops and five mobile phones, electronic gadgets and R11,000 cash were recovered from him, police said. Quereshi used to come to Lado Sarai in south Delhi to sell quilts and second-hand mobile phones. "While selling his wares he also used to conduct a reconnaissance of the area he wanted to target and find out about the routine of people. Then he used to barge into people’s houses when the occupant(s) was busy in his office, taking away all valuables," added Dhaliwal said.

He allegedly committed thefts from Malviya Nagar, Okhla, Saket and Hauz Khas and disposed off stolen articles in Kabari Bazar in Red Fort area.
