A police contingent has been deployed in the area to maintain peace, Greater Noida police chief Surendra Verma said.

He said the trouble started after two youths - Vishal and Lalit - had a scuffle with a sweeper in Gautampuri area of the town when they were returning to their homes in Thukran area.

About half an hour later, a number of sweepers came to the Thakuran area in pursuit of the two and dragged out men, women and children from their houses and beat them up. In the attack, the two youths, Virendra, Roshni and 5-year-old Kanishka sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a local hospital.

Senior civil officers, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Dadri, rushed to the spot and were trying to pacify both sides, Verma said.
