Now, the country’s biggest and world’s eighth largest airport terminal — Indira Gandhi International Airport's Terminal 3 (T3) — is ready to help the city take off to global heights.

Spread over 5.4 million sq ft, the Rs 10,000-crore T3 can accommodate all the terminals of Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Cochin airports and still be left with room.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday, T3 will start operations on July 14 with international flights. Full-fare domestic airlines and their low cost arms will shift base on July 30-31.

“An airport is often the first introduction to a country. A good airport would signal a new India, committed to join the ranks of modern industrialised nations,” Singh said.
