The incident occurred around 1.30am in the house of Ram Madnani, 42, who is a property dealer. He, his wife and two children were sleeping in one room whereas his mother was sleeping in another room.

The three men forced entry through the kitchen window by cutting iron grill and wire-mesh. With their faces were covered and armed with sharp edge knives, they asked the family members to handover the almirah keys to them. They also threatened them not to raise alarm as they could harm them.

Besides cash, the jewellery items such as chains, bracelets, rings, ear rings etc, which the family members were wearing at the time of incident, were also taken by the assailants.

However, when the burglars started leaving the house around 3.45 am, Madnani dared to catch hold of one. But, the two others returned and inflicted grievous wounds on Mandani's head, chest, hands, face, leaving him drenched in blood. The family members then called their close friends and relatives.

Madani's brother, who lives in the same locality, rushed on getting the information and took Madani to a nearby private hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU.

The Surajkund police also reached the spot along with finger print experts and dog squads.

"I reached the house around 4.15 am after Babita, wife of Madnani called me," said Sanjeev Kumar, a family friend of Madani's who lives near by.

"The case has been registered under section 458 and 380 of IPC," DCP NIT Praveen Kumar said adding, “We are investigating the matter from all angles and have ordered intensification of night patrolling in the area.”
