“They would waylay passersby in secluded areas in Sagarpur and rob them. If the victims resisted, they would be stabbed,” said AK Ojha, deputy commissioner of police (southwest). “There were four members in the gang. One of them is absconding. They are students of Classes X and XI,” he said.
They were apprehended from Sagarpur area following investigations into the murder of Virender, 24 on February 24.
“He was stabbed to death and his mobile phone and cash were missing,” said Ojha. “They are all from lower middle class families. They used to rob people and spend the money on themselves. Their parents had no idea about the activities they were indulging in,” Ojha added.
The police said that most of their money was spent on branded clothes and other accessories. In the past three days, this is the second case of students being apprehended for their involvement in murder.
On Sunday, nine students were apprehended for allegedly murdering a 16-year-old boy for Rs 2,500, which he had borrowed from the former.
