Trial court to give Godhra verdict: SC
The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to restrain the trial court in Gujarat from pronouncing its verdict in the Godhra train carnage case slated for Feb 19.
The apex court bench of Justice P Sathasivam and Justice B S Chauhan said that "after asking the trial court to proceed with the trial, how are we justified in again asking the trial court to stay its proceedings".
The Gujarat train carnage case relates to the fire in coach S-6 of the Sabarmati Express which was allegedly set ablaze at Godhra railway station on Feb 28, 2002 and in which 59 kar sevaks who were returning from Ayodhya were burnt to death.
Bihar police on Monday arrested a Maoist and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions including a China made assault rifle. The police had launched a drive against suspected Maoists at Gaya, Aurangabad and Banka districts. One Insas rifle, AK-56, AK-47, assault rifle, two country made rifles, under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), eight hand grenades, 600 live cartridges, nine magazines, one quintal ammonium nitrate (explosives) and some Maoists' literature were recovered.

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said his government has prepared a plan to promote natural farming on 50,000 acres of land. He said that farmers having land below 2.5 acres will be provided 50% subsidy for buying indigenous cows if they voluntarily adopt natural farming. Haryana agriculture minister JP Dalal said that 700 agriculture development officers will be recruited soon to provide better assistance to the farmers.
Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday launched state narcotics control bureau's 'Mission Drug Free Haryana' on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking. He said that to keep youths away from drugs, 1,100 sport nurseries will be set up in the state and Haryana will soon emerge as a sports hub of the country with 1,000 coaches and yoga teachers.
One person was killed and Sandeep Kumar's mother got injured in an accident that led to a pileup in Fatehabad on Sunday, said police. The accident took place when Sandeep Kumar along with his mother Maya Devi was going to Fatehabad.
