Two drown in surging Yamuna

A three-year-old boy and a 55-year-old man drowned in the Yamuna on Tuesday, authorities said. HT reports.

A three-year-old boy and a 55-year-old man drowned in the Yamuna on Tuesday, authorities said.

The boy, Sunny, was playing on the banks of the river near Geeta Colony flyover when he slipped and fell into the river.

The child’s body was fished out after a search of more than an hour.

In the second incident, Khemchand, a resident of Sonia Vihar, drowned near Usmanpur when he was crossing the river. Khemchand could not swim, and on Tuesday, he could not gauge the increase in the water level. He could not swim.

The Yamuna crossed the danger mark of 204.83 feet on August 12 and was recorded at 205.67 feet.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to install pumps in the areas near the river Yamuna.

MCD Commissioner KS Mehra has asked the health department to take cleanliness and public health measure such as fumigation to ensure conditions do not deteriorate further.
