A man tried to kill his wife, who he suspected of having an illicit relationship with his cousin, and his 18-month-old daughter in southwest Delhi, police said on Friday.

The crime, which came to light only recently, was a well-thought out plan by Ramesh, who was arrested from the Bijwasan Railway Station on Thursday.

“He confessed that he had come to Delhi from UP with the intention of killing them (his wife and daughter), since his wife had developed illicit relations with his cousin, who had brought them to Delhi earlier for job,” said AK Ojha, additional CP (southwest).

According to police, Ramesh came to the Capital a week ago with his family and attacked them near a farm in the Kapashera area, hours after reaching Delhi. “When the mother and the child were sleeping, he smothered his daughter and beat her abdomen with a brick. He then attacked his wife. After sensing no movement in them, he fled,” Ojha claimed.

The incident, police said, came to light when they found Renu and her daughter’s body on June 14 and shifted her to a hospital where she is now recuperating. The child, however, died in the incident.
