UPSC makes public marks of civil services exams
For the first time, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has made public marks obtained by candidates of prestigious civil services exams for selection into IAS, IPS and IFS among others.
For the first time, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has made public marks obtained by candidates of prestigious civil services exams for selection into IAS, IPS and IFS among others.
UPSC, which conducts the test, has also put marks of candidates who took the civil services (preliminary) and mains examinations on its website.
The marks of candidates who did not qualify the civil services (mains) examination and that of candidates who cleared the three-stage test (preliminary, mains and personal interview) are on the website.
According to a list of 1,004 qualified candidates, the topper has got about 53% marks in the examinations.
Haritha V Kumar, who was a probationer in Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) 2011 batch, has obtained 1,193 marks out of 2,250 (53%) to top the 2012 civil services examinations, results of which were declared last month.
V Sriram, who got second position, has got 51% (1,149 out of the total of 2,250). Stuti Charan, who got third rank in the test, has scored 51% (1,148 marks), it said.
Ashish Gupta, who got tenth position in the coveted exams, has scored 48.62 per cent (1,094 marks).
"The measure of making public the scores is aimed at increasing transparency in the process," said an official of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) which acts as the nodal department for coordination with UPSC.
Earlier, the aspirants were being informed individually via post and other means.
"The measure is also a part of proactive disclosure under the obligation of Right to Information (RTI) Act which mandates every public authority to put maximum details related to its working in public domain," the official said, adding that the Commission will continue to put online marks of civil services examination from now onwards.
