Voter cards to criminals: court seeks report from cops

A city court has asked the Delhi Police to furnish an action taken report (ATR) on a complaint against issuance of voter cards to unsocial elements without making proper enquiries and allowing them to contest elections.

Metropolitan magistrate Akash Jain asked police to file the ATR on the request of the complainant, who submitted that he had made a complaint to the police but no action was taken.

The complainant has sought “names of unsocial elements or of those involved in criminal cases be removed from the voter list and that they be declared invalid to contest any elections.”

“On request made by the complainant, action taken report be furnished by the IO/ SHO concerned...,” the court said. The complaint was filed by Haryana resident, Satyavir Singh against chief election commissioner VS Sampat and election commissioners HS Brahma and Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi.

The complainant said voter cards are issued,without making inquiries to unsocial elements.
