The instruction came after it was revealed that the perpetrators of the recent blasts in Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Jaipur had used bicycles to plant explosives in the market and other public places.

"We have asked the shopkeepers to keep a vigil on the buyers and verify their identity before selling them the bicycle," a Delhi Police officer said. "We have also asked the shopkeepers to keep a copy of the identity cards of the buyers with them," the officer said.

The hotels and cyber cafe owners in the city have been also asked to keep an eye on visitors and record their complete details.

These instructions were issued after the 2005 blasts in Delhi but now are being implemented strictly, the officer said.

Security in and around the capital, which was tight in the wake of Independence day has been further increased.

During last three days, authorities in Delhi have received two letters threatening to carry out blasts in the city.
