A 22-year-old man was killed in a brawl between neighbours over a water tap that had been sealed by the Jal Board, police said. Vijender Chowdhury and Vijender Sharma blamed each other for letting it happen.

"On Sunday, they got into groups and opened fire at each other. Bhagat Singh died and one Ompal was critically injured," said SS Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (northeast).

Police said Singh and Ompal, a relative of Chowdhury's, went to Sharma's house. "Sharma called his friends and the groups fought. Someone from Sharma's group fired at Ompal but hit Singh," said an officer. The accused are on the run.
