Webcams, call centre at Chandy's office
In a country rocked by corruption scandals, Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy wants the public to keep an eye on him. He has put a webcam in his office which sends live video feeds to his official website thoroughout the day.
In a country rocked by corruption scandals, Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy wants the public to keep an eye on him. He has put a webcam in his office which sends live video feeds to his official website thoroughout the day.
More than 1 lakh people have watched the videos of Chandy at work since the service began on July 1.
In addition to the webcam, a call centre specifically for the chief minister's office will start functioning from August 1. People can register complaints, grievances or criticism through this call centre. All calls will be forwarded to the ministries concerned and a follow-up desk will monitor their progress.
While Chandy is taking such transparency initiatives, it remains to be seen if his ministers will follow suit. "Some ministers want to get the webcams installed in their offices but we are not forcing them," Chandy said, adding that ministers should be accessible.
