However, the hospital management claimed on Monday that the woman had left on her own, against medical advice. "I have ordered an inquiry into the incident," Dr. B.J.S. Sarang, director, ESI Hospital, told HT.

"Shiela Devi (31), wife of Brij Nath, resident of Ghaziabad, was admitted around 7 a.m. on Saturday, with complaints of vomiting and dysentery. She was pregnant. Soon, she developed labour pain. She gave birth to a male child at 10.30 a.m.," Sarang said. "The child was underweight and was having breathing problems. He was referred to Pushpanjali Hospital in Ghaziabad. The child's father went along".

"Thereafter, the woman went out without informing the staff. She was brought back by the guards. On her repeated requests, the staff allowed her to go under LAMA (Leave Against Medical Advice)".
