A 38-year-old woman took on two bike-borne chain snatchers in outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri on Tuesday.

Police said Premila Rawat, a school principal who lives in Tagore Garden, had gone to Krishan Vihar in Sultanpuri for some work on Tuesday. She was on her way back home when at about 11pm two robbers waylaid her.
“Two robbers moving on a bike spotted Rawat walking alone at night on a main road. They raced towards her, stopped their bike behind her and one of the accused, 25-year-old Anil, snatched her chain. But Rawat acted quickly and caught hold of his collar and pulled him from the bike,” said DCP (outer) M.N. Tiwari.

Feeling scared, the other accused started the bike and managed to run away, police said.
“Rawat appeared calm and in control. She let go of the man’s collar only after the constable had arrived. Anil, a resident of Sultanpuri, was arrested and taken to Sultanpuri police station. A case under relevant sections was registered against him,” said a senior police officer.
