The woman, a resident of northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh, has also alleged that her photographs were morphed and posted on her fake profile on the social networking website. The person, whose identity is unknown, also posted obscene contents that were seen by her friends who alerted her about the matter, said a police officer.

A case under sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act has been registered in the cyber cell of the EOW and efforts are being made to identify the culprit, the officer said.

According to a senior police officer, the victim had approached them a couple of months back seeking action in the matter. In her complaint, the senior officer said, the woman had alleged that in July 2012, she received vulgar text messages on her mobile phone from an unknown number.

"Initially, the complainant ignored the SMSes thinking that some friend of her was playing a prank. But within a few days, she even started receiving frequent missed calls from the same number. Then on August 13, 2012, a close friend told her about an obscene profile created using her personal details and morphed photographs," said the senior officer.

The woman immediately approached the local police with a written complaint and sought action against the unknown person. The allegations of the victim were verified and accordingly a case under section 67 IT Act was registered, the senior officer added.
