A 20-year-old woman was set ablaze by her father and husband from Bahadurgarh area of Ghaziabad, police said.

The incident took place after the woman — Karishma Singh — objected to the drinking habits of the duo on Tuesday night. Police, on Thursday, arrested Karishma’s father — Som Pal Singh, 55 — and her husband — Sudhir Singh, 24 — in connection with the incident.

Police said Karishma, along with Sudhir, visited her father’s residence at Palwada area of Bahadurgarh to oversee the sale of a piece of land.

“After the deal, the duo took started drinking,” senior superintendent of police Raghubir Lal said. This went on for some days, leading to Karishma raising objections to it. On Tuesday night, an altercation broke out and Som Pal Singh poured kerosene over the victim. Her husband then lit a matchstick and set her ablaze, police said. She is said to be in a critical condition.
