In the past, Dikshit had made several representations to the Centre arguing that it should transfer control of land and some aspects of policing to the city government so that it can perform better.

The Chief Minister's change of stand came after Union Home Ministry proposed to bring the MCD under the Delhi government. "I am not going to insist on getting powers of DDA and police," she told reporters.

On the Centre's proposal to hand over major powers to Delhi government, Dikshit said her government only wanted to overcome the hurdle of multiplicity of authorities to ensure overall development of the city.

The Delhi cabinet on Tuesday night firmed up the city government's response to the proposal of the Union Home Ministry to hand over the controlling authority of the MCD to the city government.
