A national conference on ­‘natural calamities and ­mitigating strategies: options for better tomorrow’ was organised by IEC Group Of Institutions where 142 research papers and articles were submitted by ­various academicians and ­corporate professionals.

Present on the occasion, Dr DB Singh, director, IEC Group of Institutions said, “After the massive destruction at Uttrakhand, it is an ­immediate requirement to focus on this issue. Research work submitted by 78 researchers, academicians and industrial ­delegates discuss various ­strategic options which will surely help to mitigate and prepare to face any disaster.”

RL Gupta, chairman of IEC Group stressed upon the fact that disaster management was not only a regional or national ­problem but a global issuewhich had to be solved through a holistic approach. The vice-chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Dr RK Khandal said, “All the disasters are actually man-made, man is ultimately responsible for such calamities.”
