The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has asked all institutes across the country to upload accreditation details of their courses on their websites.
According to a senior AICTE official, a number of institutes hide their details if their courses have National Board of Accreditation’s clearance, which can help students to make the right choice. In case, programmes offered by the institutes do not have the accreditation, they have been asked to display it on their websites.
“In order to create awareness among students and public at large about the accredited courses, it is desirable that all institutions display their accreditation status on the web portal,” reads the letter sent by AICTE.
The letter further points out that such information help both the industry and students to know about a particular institution. Sources said some institutes put partial details related to accreditation.
To avoid this, AICTE has asked institutes to put the exact status on their websites such as duration of accreditation, whether they have applied for any or is it in process.
Accreditation of engineering courses, however, is still voluntary.
The government, however, was contemplating whether to make it mandatory.
