Modakkurichi comes under the Erode district and it is one of the 232 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Modakkurichi voted for Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.
Modakkurichi assembly constituency had 2,21,957 electors in 2016, out of which 1,07,951 were male voters and 1,13,984 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 1.2% votes.
In the 2016 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election, there were 13 candidates in the fray from Modakkurichi constituency. Modakkurichi was one of 134 seats won by the Dravida Munetra Kazhagam. It was a close contest with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Sivasubramani V.P. winning the election upstaging Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's Sachidanandam P. by a margin of just 2,222 votes.
87.3% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Sivasubramani V.P. got a total of 77,067 votes, while Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's Sachidanandam P. got 74,845 votes. Kongunadu Makkal Desia Katchi's candidate Suriamoorthi S. grabbed 5,607 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 44.3%, 43.0% and 3.2% respectively.
In Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2011, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Kittusamy R.N defeated Indian National Congress's Palanisami R.M by 40,162 votes.
