In the Capital to pick up a souvenir for being a Delhi-based achiever, Arjun ‘long-locked’ Rampal was visibly excited. “It’s great to win something for being from a place I’ve always loved. Delhi will always be close to my heart,” says the actor, adding, “Hope my club wins the best nightclub award next year.”
Lap, his lounge bar, is set to open at Hotel Samrat in August and Rampal is keen on playing DJ cum host. “I may get DJ Whosane to play at the club, but will spin for a couple of nights myself too. The club will also serve as a platform for budding DJs who wish to exhibit their talent,” he reveals. Contrary to rumours, the club isn’t designed by Gauri Khan.
After his string of hits last year Rampal has only one release this year — Fox, a thriller directed by Deepak Tijori, also starring Sunny Deol. Many attribute his recent success to his friendship with biggies SRK and Karan Johar but the actor is pragmatic: “I like to cut myself off such comments. I’ve always battled pre-conceived notions [like ‘models can’t act’] so this isn’t anything new. I believe that good friendship creates good work and that’s evident in the films we’ve made together.”
Maybe that’s one reason why in K.Jo’s next, the remake of Stepmom, the looker will be both Kareena Kapoor’s and Kajol’s object of affection. But before that ‘mush-awaited’ release, Arjun will be seen sporting whites in Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti. “My look in the film is very different and subtle. Prakash is an intense and caring filmmaker. Right now I’m busy playing with the character he’s narrated to me,” he confides. Also for Arjun, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif aren’t the protagonists of the political drama. “The film is the hero,” he asserts.
Arjun also plans to produce another feature film soon. This will be his second after the box-office dud, I See You. “We’ll also be announcing a reality show under Chasing Ganesha(his and wife Mehr’s production company). But it’s too early to talk about these projects,” he says.
Will he spin a track or two for his own production as well. “I never say never!” says the new DJ.
