Bollywood playback singer Zubeen Garg is in trouble for assaulting a minor publicly. The 16-year-old boy's father filed cases against the singer under Juvenile Justice Protection and Care of Children Act, 2000.
Garg admitted to having slapped the boy for smoking. His explanation is that the boy was too young to smoke.
Arup Borbora, the father, who is an advocate of Gauhati High Court said, "My son is a fan of Zubeen and had gone to meet him. But the singer beat him up without any provocation. If the assault weren’t bad enough, Zubeen went on to defame my son by making his name public,".
Garg, of Ya Ali fame, said he was sorry for the incident. “He came to meet me with a lit cigarette in hand. I lost my temper when he did not throw the cigarette away after I had asked him to,” he said.
Borbora refused to accept the cigarette bit. “Even if he was smoking, the singer had no right to assault a minor,” he said.
Garg has had a history of landing in controversies. Last April, he invited the wrath of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam for defying its diktat against singing Hindi songs at Bihu functions.
