Suniel Shetty says ‘Bollywood is not filled with druggies’: ‘Look at them like children and forgive such mistakes'

Suniel Shetty spoke about how the Hindi film industry is being targeted for alleged drugs consumption. The actor was speaking at an event organised by CBI.

Suniel Shetty has said that Bollywood is not filled with ‘druggies’, while speaking at a recent event. The actor spoke about his industry friends, who had never indulged in any unlawful activities. Referring to various celebs and star kids being questioned in drugs-related cases, Suniel said they should be ‘forgiven’ for their ‘mistakes’. Suniel attended an event organised by Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. While speaking at the event, the actor questioned why celebrities were being targeted and treated like ‘drug addicts’.

“Ek galti kardo toh chor hai, dakait hai. Nahi main 30 saal se industry mein hoon aur 300 dost hain mere jinhone zindagi mein kuch kiya nahi hai (For making one mistake, you are called thieves and dacoits. I have been a part of this industry for 30 years, and have many friends from here, who have never done such things). Like you said the gateway, but that gateway has to stop there,” Suniel said.

Speaking about how the drugs-related cases involving Bollywood celebs were in the limelight, the actor said people from the film industry were not ‘druggies’. He clarified that the reality was not what was being projected on social media, where hashtags like ‘boycott Bollywood’ and ‘Bollywood druggies’ were being shared.

“No, Bollywood is not filled with druggies. Galtiyan hum karte hain, unhein bhi bachon ki tarah dekh ke maaf kijiyega (We make mistakes, look at them like children and forgive such mistakes). Hashtag ‘boycott Bollywood’, hashtag ‘Bollywood druggies’ aisa hai nahi (these are not true),” Suniel said.

Earlier in June, actor Siddhanth Kapoor was taken into custody for allegedly consuming drugs at a party in Bangalore. He was later were granted bail.

Aryan Khan, son of actor Shah Rukh Khan, was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in October 2021. He was kept in custody for almost a month, before he was granted bail. In May, Aryan was given a clean chit in the case after he was not mentioned as one of the accused in the chargesheet filed by the NCB.
