Condemning the recent incident at Maharashtra Sadan where a Shiv Sena MP forced a Muslim to break his Ramzan fast, Bhatt said that if there is no freedom in the nation then it will not progress. He, alongwith other protesters, also demanded an enquiry in the incident.

Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt led a protest in Mumbai against the recent incident at Maharashtra Sadan where a member of Parliament (MP) forced a Muslim caterer to break his Ramzan fast.

Condemning the incident, Bhatt said that if there is no freedom in the nation then it will not progress, if humanity ends there is nothing which development can do.

"The most important thing which needs to be decided is that whether this nation will run on the rule of law or upon the wish of certain people. We are here to do our responsibility; we will stand against any kind of injustice to any religion," said Bhatt.

The protesters demanded an enquiry into the matter and said everyone should be treated as equals.

On Thursday, a petition was filed against Shiv Sena MPs demanding cancellation of their membership and also investigation by a special sitting judge of high court. Shiv Sena MPs had allegedly forced a Muslim catering supervisor to break his Ramzan fast at Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi.

The MPs were apparently angry over not being served good food. The Maharashtra Sadan has apologised to the employee, even as the Shiv Sena has claimed that they were not aware of the employee's religion.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday had maintained that his party holds all religions in high respect and that there was no intention to hurt anyone's sentiments.
