Gurinder’s next on partition
Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha revealed that she is working on a script on the 1947 India-Pakistan partition on the micro-blogging website, Twitter.entertainment Updated: Jun 05, 2010 20:02 IST
Chadha tweeted, “I have been working on our new script on partition all day today and it is marvelous, sad, moving, but ultimately healing.”
The director, whose last film on zombies, It’s A Wonderful Afterlife, couldn’t set the box-office on fire, wants to make a film with a message this time. She tweeted, “Am shocked by how few young people actually know what happened in India around 1947. My film will educate a whole new generation I hope.”
It has been rumoured that Chadha’s film will be based on the Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre bestseller, Freedom At Midnight, and is being tentatively called the same. But Chadha has admitted in the interviews that the film will be a story from the point of view of a ‘strong woman character’.
She tweeted, “What's with all the story lines with women being the victims? Have you not seen any of my films? We women rock – always.”
