After having appeared in films as a child actor in the 1980s, Roshan made his film debut in a leading role in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000). The film was a major success, and Roshan's performance earned him Filmfare Awards for Best Actor and Best Male Debut. He has been noted for his performances in films like Koi... Mil Gaya (2003), Krrish (2006), Dhoom 2 (2006) and Jodhaa Akbar (2008) which are also his biggest commercial successes so far, and which have won him numerous Best Actor awards.

Hrithik has revealed all his traumatising incidents on Farah Khan's show Tere Mere Beech Main, "Everything seems normal till you start talking. The minute you start talking, you get stuck and you don't know why? Right from your toes to the ends of your hair strands, you are in complete shock. Your heart palpitates, you don't understand and you are aware of people looking at you. You can compare it to hell," Hrithik said.
When asked for how has the disability bothered him, Hrithik said, "Six to 35. I am 35." The actor, however has improved with time, as he started practicing speech therapy on a daily basis.
