Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!..
in his first interview ever, nabbed by
Where does your story begin?
(Thinks for a moment and then says in one breath) I am 16 years old. I study in the 10th standard of Hillroads Academy School, Delhi. I live in Hargobind Enclave, Preet Vihar and I love to act in movies and in ads.
Bas itna hi hai
Have you done ads also?
No, but I’d love to do them.
You haven’t acted at all before this, right?
Not even in school plays. I started watching movies after the eighth standard because when malls came up..
mujhe shauq chadh gaya
. People say na.. that they had always dreamt of becoming actors. I hadn’t.
Then why did you go for the
Aisi hi chala gaya tha
. My father, who has a business in motor parts, has some contacts through whom I came to know about the auditions. When I told my mother I was going to try out acting, she laughed, “
Apni shakal dekhi hai
They made you propose to a girl at the auditions.
(Shyly) Yes.. when I started saying my lines, someone said, “Let the script be..
aur mujhe patao
.”Now what do I know about that?
When did you get to know that you had been selected?
After the auditions, I was called to Manali for acting workshops. And the crew started teasing me, “Lucky,
tu to chha raha hai
.” So I got a hint that I may be selected.
What has been the reaction of the cast after
The entire cast called me. (Proudly) Even Neetu Chandra ma’am called me to say that she wished she was the childhood heroine because I’d acted so well.
You must be getting recognised on the streets now.
Arre, bahut proud feel hota hai when people recognise me. I get a lot of reactions on the Internet..
aapko pata hai sab
mein mera naam aaya hai
? A lot of people have added me on Orkut. (Pauses) Even girls!
How similar are you to Lucky’s character?
door ka rishtedaar
I don’t beat up people, I don’t steal and I am very shy. I think they took me because my face is ekdum similar to Abhay Deol’s.
Which is your favourite scene in the movie?
The scene where I am at Archies and I ask the girl about which card she would like.
Because I look smart in the scene. (Pauses, then says shyly) Also because I had a heroine.. it was a romantic scene.
Do you like any girl?
No I swear! No one has proposed to me. (After a pause, hesitantly) Okay, two-three have proposed… but I said “No” because
mujhe koi pasand nahin aayi
. (Another pause) I guess it’s a good thing that they have started proposing.
How was the crew to work with?
I am very thankful to Dibakar Banerjee sir. I didn’t even know the ABCD of acting but
woh bande ke andar se
nikalva lete hain
. And there was a scene in which Paresh Rawal sir had to slap me. After the scene, he said, “Sorry” and hugged me tightly.
What is your most favourite memory of the shoot?
Abhay Deol’s jaw is broader than mine, so during the shooting, I had to wear a cheek pad to so my jaw would look broader.
Once, I drank water and swallowed the pad by mistake. (Grins) The entire crew tried to help me. I even tried vomiting but it didn’t work. I still don’t know if it came out or not.
What will you take up after 10th.. science or commerce?
Commerce. (Laughs) I can’t handle science. I’ve always been interested in
with friends. (Proudly) Even then, I have never bunked. My friends had planned to bunk once, but I didn’t go with them.
Have you signed on any other movie?
I have a small role as Saif Ali Khan’s childhood character in Imtiaz Ali sir’s next movie.
What are your plans after school?
My brother is studying hotel management in Australia.. he keeps calling me there. I don’t know yet if anyone will cast me as a hero in a movie. So I may do hotel management. But first, I have to finish my school board exams.
