Popstar Mariah Carey has shed her diva image to play a dowdy social worker in an upcoming film. Helmed as the world's biggest diva who is usually done up to the nines the R&B megastar wouldn't be seen dead without her lippy mascara, foundation, bronzer, eye shadow, blusher, eyeliner and carefully coiffure hair on most of the days.

However, the Dreamlover hitmaker has ditched all the make-up for the portrayal of her character called Mrs Weiss in the feel-good movie Precious, News of the World reported.

The 40-year-old singer and actress has been showered with praises from film critics in the drama about a troubled teenager in 1980s Harlem, New York.

The movie which be released in Britain next year is also being tipped as a hot favourite for the Oscars.
