Actor Priyanka Chopra is a self-proclaimed animal lover and a doting pet parent who pampers her dog. Now, the actor has take her love for animals further by doing her bit to spread awareness about a vulnerable species.
A source close to the actor reveals, “Priyanka has adopted a baby lioness at a Jharkhand zoo. Last year, she had also adopted a tigress in Ranchi and she had sent in a cheque of R2 lakh for the upkeep of the animal.” The source further adds that animal adoption doesn’t necessarily mean a transfer of the ownership of the animal. The person who decides to adopt makes sure that they pay the expenses, or at least part of the expenses, that are involved in the healthcare and daily food supply.
Lions are listed as, vulnerable, on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of endangered species. The source adds, “Priyanka took this initiative as she is trying to help protect the species. She is giving financial help to a group of Rhesus monkeys in the same zoo as well. She hopes that more people pledge to support and help these animals.”
