Royal affair

A lavish Dawat-e-Walima on Thursday was the last chapter in the Saifeena wedding.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor had the sort of elaborate wedding that others only dream of. On Thursday evening, on Aurangzeb Road in Delhi, the two families held a Dawat-e-Walima attended by the who’s who of the political world. From chief minister Sheila Dixit to Rahul Gandhi, Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Praful Patel and Amar Singh to Shashi Tharoor and wife Sunanda, this was one heavyweight guest list. However, Madhur Bhandarkar and Imtiaz Ali were the only Bollywood personalities present.

Kareena wore an old-world gharara in fuschia and teamed it with a long, pink kurta with antique gold zari, while Saif wore a black, knee-length bandhgala, looking like a complete Nawab. For Kareena, designer Manish Malhotra merged traditional designs with modern cuts, giving her a contemporary look. A source at the party reveals, “With all the events coming to an end, it was an emotional moment for the family. Everyone was happy for the couple and gave them their blessings. Bebo earned compliments for looking so gorgeous.”

The decor was classic. Saif’s daughter, Sara, looked stunning in a green Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla outfit. Karisma Kapoor, in an off-white gharara, looked beautiful in a traditional-yet-modern outfit.
