Shabana mum, Javed tells all

Lyricist Javed Akhtar cannot stop raving about the “classy décor” and “spread of dishes” at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s house, where he and wife Shabana Azmi attended the dinner organised in honour of US President Barack Obama and wife Michelle.
However, Azmi does not share her husband’s sentiments. While Akhtar is all too keen to talk about the event, Shabana tweeted Monday afternoon, “Guys I’m not a reporter and have no intentions of describing the menu, clothes, etc of Obama’s dinner at prime minister’s house. But yes, all guests did speak to the president and (his) wife (sic).”
Talking about exactly the same things, Akhtar told HT City, “I was so proud to be there. The décor was beautiful. The lights, the flowers — everything looked splendid. The menu consisted of prawns, biryani, roasted meat and a good spread of desserts. There were two bands playing at the venue. I was impressed with the rendition of old songs by the navy band, which also performed Ae Meri Zohra Zabi.”
Akhtar says that he and Shabana also spoke to the US President and his wife. “Shabana and Michelle had a chat about Indian designers and Shabana told her about how many of them are doing really well, and that she must see their work.”
