The Fighter is Vijender’s story?
Olympic gold medalist boxer found lots in common with the Oscar-nominated film.
Oscar-nominated movie,

The Fighter
, has been inspired from true events in the life of the boxer Micky Ward. But back home when Vijender Singh was reading up about the Hollywood film, he did not expect to find that much in common.
According to a close friend of the Olympic Gold medalist boxer, Singh also had an older brother who coached him. “He was reading up about
The Fighter
and realised that it had a lot in common with his own life in terms of the entire older brother angle,” adds the friend, on request of anonymity.
Now, Singh cannot wait for the film to release. That’s why he has asked Reliance Big Entertainment, which will distribute the film in India soon, to give him and his older brother a special screening of the movie.
Says Priti Shahani, Big Pictures, “We would be happy to arrange a screening for Vijender, whenever he would like to watch the film. We are also arranging for the film screenings for other stars.”
The film traces the real life story of Ward’s journey (played by Mark Wahlberg) into the global boxing ring with help from his older brother and trainer Dicky Ecklund (played by Christian Bale). Singh was also taught many tricks of the trade by his older brother. “He felt an interesting connect with the story of the film,” says he. “That is why he wants to share that with his brother.”
The Fighter
has been nominated for seven Academy Awards including the Best Picture category. Vijender Singh was unavailable for comment.
