Are you a Janpath junkie? Are you one of those who treks all the way from the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station to get to your office in outer circle of Connaught Place or find a good bargain at fashion street? Here’s some good news. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to expand the existing metro to include a new route which will have Janpath as a stop!

We spoke to some people who frequent that part of CP and asked them if it was viable to have three metro stations in the same two kilometre radius?

“I really hope this plan works out! We come from North Campus in the afternoons to hang out, and it’s so bugging to walk all the way across CP to get to Janpath,” says Sonal Sinha, an economics student.

For Jyotsana Tangri, an employee with Max New York Life Insurance, “the idea is great for tourists as there would be a direct metro.”

Anshul Duggal, who works with CitiCorps India Private Ltd on Janpath, feels the same. “It will be a boon for office people and shoppers, alike,” he says.

The detractors, however, aren’t excited. “It’s hardly a fifteen minute walk from Rajiv Chowk? Introducing new stops is just wasteful planning,” says Vishwanathan Mohan, a chartered account who works on Kasturba Gandhi Marg.

“More construction? That too around Janpath. It is unnecessary and will make life very difficult for hardly any returns,” says Bindu Vashisht, a 22-year-old tourism operator.
