Three-year-old ‘Mowgli’ girl looked after by dogs
A three-year-old girl has been nicknamed Mowgli after she was found naked and crawling on all fours, after being raised by dogs, in central Russia this month.
Social workers found the little girl, known as Madina, in the town of Ufa after worried neighbours alerted them.
They revealed that the youngster gnawed at bones, growled at strangers, and also clung to the animals for warmth after being neglected by her drunken mother Anna.
According to them, dogs had become Madina’s “best friends”.
They even revealed that Madina’s mother let her eat scraps off the floor with the animals, while she herself ate at the table.
Madina’s discovery has shocked Russians.
"The child is angelic but she has been deprived of love and care, except from the dogs," the Sun quoted a social worker as saying.
The poor tot’s rescuers said that she was even shunned by local children, and that she knew only two words—‘yes’ and ‘no’.
"When her mother was angry she used to run away but no child played with her in the playground. She hardly knew a single word and fought with everyone,” local sources said.
"So dogs became her best friends. She played with them and slept with them when it was cold in winter," they added.
Seized by cops, Madina has now been taken into care.
Anna denied that she neglected her daughter.
"I do look after my daughter," she told the police.
Her neighbours revealed that the disappearance of Madina’s father soon after her birth led to Anna’s drinking.
Doctors who have seen Madina say that she is mentally and physically healthy despite her ordeal.
