I’ve always wanted Kolkata Knight Riders to win but we played badly and deserved to lose. We’ll get there soon with the right balance of Indian and foreign players and a coach who can build up the team.

We’re going to play some trial matches before the Champions League and are hoping to rope in Wasim bhai (Akram) as consultant. We’re in talks for a new coach. Saurav (Ganguly’s) handling that. We should be able to take a call in a few days.

We Indians have a talent for putting people on a pedestal, then, pulling them down. A few weeks ago, India was the No 1 Team. Today, it’s out. We forget that sports is not just about winning but losing too.

Ishant Sharma is KKK’s spearhead bowler. He plays well and works hard. One five-wicket haul and he’ll be back in favour.
‘Why shouldn’t other actors buy IPL teams too?’

I’m not the only actor to be a franchise owner. In Season 1, there was Juhi (Chawla) and Preity (Zinta). Akshay (Kumar), Duggu (Hrithik Rishan) and Katrina (Kaif) were brand ambassadors. Last year, Shilpa (Shetty) entered the field.
If others actors (Salman Khan,

Ajay Devgan) want to buy a team, why not? I don’t stop them from doing films so why should I stop them from getting into cricket.
For me, filmmaking and cricket is a passion. Lalit (Modi) and BCCI deal with the business aspect. I’ve reached a stage when I want to give something back to society through entertainment and sport. I’m doing it through KKR and Red Chillies’ productions.
