Ranchi boy Hemwant Kumar Tiwari, 26, had never imagined that his days as a struggling actor would be over at Cannes!

He is on cloud nine as his debut film Zindagi Bahut Khoobsurat Hai has grabbed a little spot at the ongoing Cannes film festival. The film will be showcased at the grandest stage this week.

So what makes him happy? Is it the expected appreciation for his role from the international audience or the thought that he would be watched by the world?

Well, it is both. But, he feels the grand show will turn out to be a great booster. Tewari says the film has been directed by Bobby Pushkarna and it revolves around a man’s life in Mumbai from sunrise to sunset. It has been shot at crowded locations in Andheri Station, Dhobi Ghat, Saat Raasta, VT Station and on local trains. However, some of the best scenes are shot in the Arabian Sea.

The film has been selected for the short film corner of the festival.

His work in the film has succeeded in grabbing the attention of many mainstream directors in Bollywood. He has been getting offers from commercial filmmakers and has also finalised a few roles. However, he refuses to disclose the banners that he signed and the details of the offer.

About the scope for budding actors in small cities like Ranchi, Tiwari says, “The city doesn’t matter. I belong to Ranchi and still I managed to do a film that will now be watched by an international audience. All that matters is your will to perform and the labour you put in”.

“I always wanted to become an actor. But I didn’t know that my acting will be showcased at the grandest stage in the world so soon,” says the son of an army officer. Acting comes naturally to him and he aspires to become an actor like Charlie Chaplin. “Charlie Chaplin has always been an inspiration for me,” he says.
