While Nita, 48, wife of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, was recently spotted in a velvet knee-length dress at a film event in Mumbai, Tina, 55, wife of Mukesh’s younger brother, industrialist Anil Ambani, has graced the April cover of the Hello! magazine in a black drape dress. Tina, who was mostly spotted in saris and suits until last year, has lost oodles of weight as part of her new glam makeover.

Nita, too, had lost a lot of weight a couple of years back.

The style fraternity can’t help but take note. “Gujarati families are generally considered conservative. But now, things are changing, and I’m glad to see Nita and Tina looking wonderful in dresses. Most importantly, their husbands are supporting them,” says designer Niki Mahajan.

Designer Masaba says, “Whatever their family norms are, now, the times are changing and they know they have their own identity. Also, Nita and Tina are both seen more often at media events these days, so people are noticing their fashion choices.”

Designer Falguni Peacock is impressed. “I love how Tina Ambani is looking on the magazine cover. And in this picture of Nita, I simply love the attitude.” Designer Payal Jain adds, “I’ve seen them wear Western clothes, but now, they’re taking this look forward to the public platform as well. It’s a refreshing change.”
