Is it not fabulous to plan out your festive clothes? From all that glitters for Diwali to pretty ethnics for pre-celebration parties — it’s fun to check out a lust-worthy closet. Now, pay attention to your lips, and add instant glamour to your celebratory look with the new red in town.

Ignore the gory name and revel in the glory of oxblood red’s sheer brilliance. The bold colour can be placed somewhere between a dark vermilion, burgundy and reddish-brown. It’s also a slight variant of the common, traditional colour that you might have found in you mom’s old makeup stash and conveniently ignored. But, from international celebs like Katy Petty and Kate Bosworth to our very own Kangna Ranaut and Sameera Reddy — it works well with all skin tones.

If summer meant basking in corals, neons and pastels, let your winters be ruled by a mix of Marilyn Monroe’s suave sass and a desi bride’s D-day glamour, with this red.

Rock the bloody look
Even though it’s the hot new pick of the season, don’t go overboard with all the oxblood. Supplement your makeup well with products that add glamour, without making you look like a firecracker gone kaput. It’s a cardinal rule that when the lips are bold, go light on the eyes, but, a dash of mascara can go the right way.

For your Diwali look, curled eyelashes with blood on your lips and a thin stroke of kohl is all you need. For the parties, family get-togethers and celebrations that don’t need a reason — the oxblood can work with a creamy touch.

With some light foundation, a nude or tan coloured eye-shadow, a mild bronzer and a dark, matching nail colour, be the diva at all these dos. Time to spill some envious blood!
