This ramp show broke records of sorts. Among other things, for the way people braved crazy rains in Mumbai on Monday to see 27 filmstars walk the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra’s show.

In aid of actor Shabana Azmi’s NGO Mijwan Society, the show was high on the usual glamour quotient but also had two rather unusual models.In a first,industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s wife, Nita, walked the ramp, and so did India’s recent Olympic medalist boxer MC Mary Kom. The latter got a thundering applause and a standing ovation from the crowd, though she clearly looked overwhelmed by all the attention. Among the others who walked the ramp in aid of the girl child included actors Priyanka Chopra, Imran Khan, Chitrangda Singh, Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Dia Mirza, Malaika Arora Khan and filmmakers Karan Johar, Prabhu Deva, Imtiaz Ali and Rohit Shetty, among others.

Each time a lesser known young actor came on the ramp, Mukesh Ambani, who sat in the front row with industrialists Naresh Goyal and Adi Godrej, turned to his wife, who readily helped in identifying by whispering the name. While the 20 professional models on the ramp had to make do with appreciative nods, the 27 actors were greeted with loud whistles and applause, proving yet again the fact that even in fashion, nothing rules quite like Bollywood does.
