Sonam’s sari slip up

Sonam Kapoor, Bollywood’s ultimate clothes horse seems to have fumbled quite terribly in her fashionable footsteps. Recently, at designer Masaba Gupta’s flagship boutique launch in Mumbai, the chic Ms Kapoor wore a terribly short blouse with a gossamer sari, wearing heavy kohl and a loose knot bun.

This edgy-ethnic look has led to a raging debate in the fashion fraternity. In the battle of the traditional sari versus Sonam’s contemporary avatar, it seems the actor is fast losing points to her contemporaries, who went the traditional way.

"If Sonam would have tied up the palla as a scarf on the neck, it would have looked more appealing. And if the net draped nicely, it would have looked elegant," says designer Reynu Taandon.

"The classic look works the best, as seen on Deepika, Katrina and Vidya. Trying too hard to look "designer" backfires many a times," says stylist Rishi Raj.

But some believe that Sonam’s look is the first bold look in the sari. "Masaba Gupta has done something truly innovative. As far as what is called right — the other looks —beautiful certainly, but boring to me!" says designer Hemant Sagar.

Looks like Sonam’s outspoken ways have seeped into her wardrobe with a bang!
