Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week will be moving to Mumbai in its next season, FDCI president Sunil Sethi has told HT City that the fashion gala will be held in the Capital in October.

Contrary to media reports suggesting that the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week will be moving to Mumbai in its next season, FDCI president Sunil Sethi has told HT City that the fashion gala will be held in the Capital in October. “We are 100 per cent having the WIFW Spring/Summer ’10 in Delhi.

There was some confusion about the timing, as we didn’t want it to clash with the Commonwealth Games (October 3-14). But that is sorted now.” Sethi admitted that the FDCI was mulling over advancing the event. “If we had chosen August, this would’ve been the season’s first fashion week. Buyers would have bigger budgets, but no taste of international trends,” he revealed.

In September, the WIFW clashes with the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai and the organisers didn’t “want to divide the buyers”. September is also the month when international fashion weeks in New York (September 8-16), London (September 17-21), Milan (September 22-28) and Paris (September 29- October 7) are held. “So, we decided that the fashion week will be held in October after the CW Games, though the dates aren’t finalised,” said Sethi.

In 2008, WIFW was held from October 15-19 and last year from October 24 to 28. Asked if the organisers were also planning to change the venue, after the chaos that was witnessed at the NSIC grounds last month, Sethi said, “It’s too early for such details. Right now, we’re only deciding on the time of the event.”
