Highlights: Manchester City retained their Premier League title with a 4-1 win over Brighton on the final day of the season. Glen Murray handed the lead to Brighton but Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan clinched the game for the reigning champions. Glory for Van Djik
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been named Premier League Player of the Season. By doing so, he became the first defender to win the Player of the Season award in seven seasons, after Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany in 2011-12.
“It’s a great honour and I’m very proud. Without everyone here at Liverpool, fans and players, it wouldn’t be possible so I will definitely give them credit for all of it as well,” Premier League official website quoted Van Dijk as saying.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Manchester United’s players they risk being omitted from the club’s pre-season tour if they report back unfit.
United manager Solskjaer has repeatedly expressed his frustration at the fitness levels of his players since he took over in December.
Solskjaer is of the view that United have to be able to match their rivals physically if they are to close the huge gap between themselves and the top of the Premier League table next season.

Henderson speaks
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has admitted his side need a miracle to become the first team to overtake the Premier League leaders on the final day of the season.
But in a week in which they performed one to beat Barcelona 4-0, overhauling a three-goal deficit to reach the Champions League final, it would be folly to dismiss the notion of him raising the trophy aloft to end Liverpool’s 29-year wait since they last reigned supreme in England.
“City are a great team, but so are we. We’ve competed right to the very end,” Henderson said.
“Whoever gets it will deserve it. From our point of view, we couldn’t have done any more.”

Juergen Klopp’s Liverpool finished 25 points behind City last year, but have bridged the gap playing football that at times has surpassed even Guardiola’s slickers.
Liverpool have lost just once to City’s four defeats and were briefly seven points in front in January, but in the run-in they have found that as well as the style that is Guardiola’s blueprint, his team also have core of steel.
