5 held for stealing car tyres, rims from parked vehicles

According to police, the suspects — Puneet (26), Gajendra (19), Sunny (19), Aman Kumar (18) and Deepak (21) — were arrested from Jharsa road in Sector 39 after a tip-off.

Five people were arrested for allegedly stealing tyres, rims and other parts of cars parked at isolated stretches in the city, the police said on Monday. Four car tyres, a car jack, and a car were recovered from their possession, police said, adding that the gang used to target expensive cars.

According to police, the suspects — Puneet (26), Gajendra (19), Sunny (19), Aman Kumar (18) and Deepak (21) — were arrested from Jharsa road in Sector 39 after a tip-off. On Sunday evening, the suspect had allegedly stolen four tyres of a car parked outside a house in Q block of Sector 40 .

Subhash Boken, city police spokesperson, said except Puneet, who is a resident of Sector 38, the other suspects are from Jharsa village. “The suspects used to conduct a reconnaissance of cars parked at isolated stretches and then steal their tyres and rims,” Boken said.

The suspects were produced in court on Monday and sent to police custody. A case was registered against the accused under section 379 (theft) of Indian Penal Code at Sector 40 police station.
