Abused maid jumps off balcony in DLF Phase 3, suffers spinal injury

The employer, runs a business in Delhi and his wife, a 45-year-old house-maker, had allegedly beaten the victim on Saturday at their house in a society in DLF Phase 3.

A 19-year-old maid suffered a spinal-cord injury after she jumped off the first floor of the balcony of a house in DLF Phase- 3, while trying to escape from her employer’s wife, who used to beat her, the police said on Tuesday.

The employer runs a business in Delhi, while his wife, a 45-year-old woman, is a home-maker. The maid, hailing from West Bengal, told the police that she has been working at the house for the past two-and-a-half months.

An FIR was registered on Tuesday evening at DLF Phase 3 police station under sections 323 (assault) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC. The victim was to undergo a surgery on Tuesday night, the police said and added that they were yet to make any arrest in the case.

Rohini Kapoor, 44, a resident of the society, said the police did not file an FIR till Tuesday afternoon when they contacted police commissioner who promised to take action. The employer could not be reached for a comment.
