The arrested include Sachin alias Neetu (28), resident of Muzaffarnagar and Yogender (25), hailing from Bawana village (Delhi). The police recovered a car, two pistols and a number of cartridges from the possession of the accused.

Police sources said around 10pm on Wednesday, five car-borne men gained access into the condominium complex by posing as Delhi vigilance team officials.

Victims Shivan Ashutosh, his wife Vineeta and uncle were at home when the robbers struck.

“They rang the door bell and gained entry in Shivan’s apartment. They threatened the inmates saying they had got to know of a sex racket operating from the address. When the family members asked for their ID proof, one of the robbers produced a fake ID card of Delhi fire service and was carrying a Delhi police file. They took the family hostage at gunpoint and asked for cash and jewellery,” Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (crime) told Hindustan Times.

“Sensing trouble, Vineeta rushed to the main door and managed to get out of the apartment. She cried for help and rushed to the ground floor,” said the DCP.

Hearing her cries, three guards rushed to the spot along with a few neighbours. The residents immediately called up the police control room.

Fearing arrest, three accused managed to flee from the spot. However, two were nabbed by the guards.

Police officials said the car was owned by Sachin’s younger brother and was being run as a taxi. On Wednesday, Sachin told his brother that he had booked a client in Gurgaon and would return home the next morning, they added. Meanwhile, DCP Dayal said raids are being conducted to nab the absconding accused. “The remaining three will be nabbed soon.”
