“There is no need to do an internship as our course gives us practical lessons. This amounts to exploitation. This is burdening the students,” said Sunil Bharadwaj, organiser, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which has been supporting the cause.

From this year, the internship had been made compulsory from the 3rd year of the course.

Previously, D.Ed students were not subject to such a compulsory internship.

“The students have to complete an 80-day teaching practical, which is a part of the programme. Introducing a separate internship period is not required,” added Bharadwaj.

Meanwhile, the students will stage a protest outside the residence of Haryana education minister Geeta Bhukkal at Jhajjar on December 19.
