Before the hospital management realised what was happening, about 15 of them — one of them brandishing a revolver — rushed into the ICU and opened fire at three patients — Joginder Singh, 32, his father Satbir, 52, and grandfather Shivraj, 81.

While Joginder and Satbir were seriously injured in the shootout, Shivraj escaped with minor injuries as the attackers had run out of ammunition by the time they turned on him.

The shootout lasted for nearly seven minutes and was captured by the CCTV cameras. The attackers have been identified as residents of Khandsa village.

“I was attending to them (the patients) when I was pushed aside. We watched helplessly as they kept firing,” said an ICU nurse at the hospital.

The hospital sequence followed a skirmish at the local court, where the trio went for a hearing of an old property dispute with the attackers.

After the hearing, Joginder assaulted a family member of one of the rival group members and was subsequently wounded and admitted to the Sunrise Hospital on Khandsa Road.

Dr Naval Jain of Sunrise Hospital, said, “We rushed them to Medanta hospital.”
