The Gurgaon district administration has mooted a proposal for setting up a ‘heliport hub’ in the city for disaster management and air ambulance services.
The proposal came from aviation company KP Aviation Private Limited.
According to the plan, the heliport hub will consist of a permanent helipad and an operation control room.
At least one helicopter will always be stationed at the facility, which can be used for evacuation or sending relief to disaster-hit sites.
The chopper can also be used as an air ambulance for providing medical assistance to the victims and transporting them to nearest hospitals.
Besides, the helicopter can also be used for police patrolling in case of an emergency and ferrying media persons to ensure that people get real-time information about a tragedy.
Gurgaon deputy commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi on Monday held a meeting to discuss the proposal.
He also asked the Huda and MCG officials to identify a suitable place for setting up a heliport hub in Gurgaon.
Vidyarthi said that the proposal seems useful for Gurgaon, keeping in view the geographical location and the number of high-rises.
He said that a helicopter will be more useful in evacuating people in case of any disaster like earthquake or fire in high-rises.
Gurgaon lies in the high seismic zone and it has hundreds of skyscrapers.
Sanjay Singh, chief operating officer of KP Aviation, said that the helipad hub can be set up along the NH-8 and the KMP Expressway.
He said that the facility will be the first-of-its-kind in the country.
It will be developed as a model so that other states can also take up the project later.
“For disaster management, air ambulance, police patrolling and media coverage of a disaster, the services of helicopter will be provided free-of-cost,” said Singh, a retired army officer who was awarded Vishishth Sewa medal for evacuating people during floods in Bihar in 2008.
Singh said that helicopter was used in evacuating victims and providing them medical assistance during Uttarakhand floods last year.
Only a 30x30-metre space for the helipad and two rooms of 20x20 sqft each for operation control room were required for this hub at that time.
