The family of the deceased Bharat Kumar Dabas, 40, has accused his wife Sheetal, 37, and father-in-law Rajprakash Suhag of murder and abetment to suicide.

Police said there was a discord between the couple since one year due to which Bharat often remained distressed. Sheetal had even left the house to live with her mother but returned back. Based on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s family, Bharat was also upset with his sister-in-law.

Posted as assistant librarian in MDI business school, Bharat lived with his wife, a professor at government polytechnic in Jhajjar district adjoining Gurgaon, at flat number 404 in Sanskriti residential apartment on MDI campus in sector 18 of Gurgaon.

Police said he was found hanging from the fan inside a locked room while his sons, Abhinav (8) and Arjun (5) were lying down dead allegedly after being smothered by their father using a pillow.

The sons studied at American Public School in DLF Phase 2.

On Monday morning, police said, the family informed school bus driver that their kids would not be going to school. While Sheetal left for work, Bharat remained indoors with the two sons.

At 2 pm, Sheetal informed one of the servants that his husband was not picking up the phone. The servant and the guard knocked the door but got no response. The administration was alerted by the guard and at 4 pm neighbours in the society, relatives, guards and MDI employees including Shailesh, Bharat’s colleague at the library, tried to break the door.

After several failed attempts, at 4:30 pm, one of Bharat’s relatives climbed up the windows of the room from the back side only to find the two sons dead and Bharat hanging from the fan. Police was called in and bodies taken for post mortem.

Police at sector 18 police station have lodged a case of murder (section 302 IPC) abetment to suicide (section 306 IPC) and (acts by several persons with common interest) against Sheetal, wife of the deceased, her father Rajprakash Suhag and other family members based on the complaint submitted by Bharat’s mother Indro Dabas.

“Bharat died due to hanging. His sons had no injury marks and had apparently died due to smothering,” said ACP Hawa Singh.

He said that Bharat was distressed due to marital discord for one year now.

“We are investigating the case. Bharat’s family also alleged that he was also upset due to some reason with his sister-in-law,” Singh added.
